Current Implementation Status

In progress. Emirates Health Services is in the initial phase of awareness and translation of the IDDSI framework.

The Emirates Health Services was established with the aim of enhancing the efficiency of the federal health sector in the country, by providing health care and treatment services, and taking preventive measures and combating epidemics and diseases, as well as achieving sustainable development of health care.

It also aims to implement strategic policies and standards related to the public health sector and preventive care set by the ministry, and proposing legislation related to the development of the federal health sector in the country. A New central section for speech therapy was created under the health support services department in EHSE in 2021. Upon brain storming for initiatives Dr Moataz Alzeyat, ENT physician holder of master in phoniatrics, suggested to implement the International Dysphagia Diet Standardisation Initiative in the United Arabic Emirates. After that, Ms Latefa Rashed, the director of Health Support Services Department proposed to form an official task force made up of the main stakeholders. The initiative plan was raised to the CEO and pesented to the board of executives and General director of EHSE with introductory meeting with the EHSE hospitals and 2 sites were chosen: one general and one pediatric & women specialized then regular meetings were held.

An IDDSI reference group is currently being assembled in the UAE. It will be a collaboration of health care professionals. The group is seeking volunteers to be a part of this group for implementation of IDDSI within the Emirates Health Services. For further information and participation please contact the group.
